The bus is the easiest and most localised form of public transport, providing a vital service for people living in both urban and rural areas.
Over 513million bus trips were made in Scotland in 2008 of which 36million were in the north-east - a 3% increase on 2007. This number is growing all the time as bus services improve and more priority is given to routes.
The Getabout partners are developing quality bus corridors where the buses, timetables, bus priority, shelters and borders – which help people with mobility problems get on the new low floor buses - are all improved.
In fact, results from the city show a 40% increase.
New transport interchanges have been developed at both Aberdeen and Peterhead while a new shuttle bus service has been created linking Dyce railway station, the airport and the local industrial estates.
The successful local network of Park & Ride facilities – at Kingswells, Ellon and Bridge of Don – is set to be joined in the coming years with new developments at Dyce and on the southern fringes of Aberdeen, tying in with the new Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and other major transport infrastructure developments.
Using the bus is easy and most city routes are so frequent you don’t need a timetable.
